Permit Requirements

  • A Transfer Station Permit is required. All vehicles entering must display a current transfer station permit sticker, which may be obtained free of charge by presenting a valid Connecticut driver’s license with a Middlebury address and the vehicle registration indicating Middlebury as the tax town at the scale house located at the entrance to the transfer station.
  • Please affix your Transfer Station Permit to a corner of your windshield or to the back of your rearview mirror in clear view through the vehicle’s windshield.
  • If you are new to Middlebury and haven’t switched your registration over yet, you can still use the Transfer Station; however, you must stop at the scale and show proof of your residency each time you enter the Transfer Station. Documents accepted as proof of residency may be a mortgage statement, tax bill, or utility bill (only one is needed). Other proof of residency may be considered. Please obtain a transfer station permit as soon as possible to avoid stopping at the scale every time you enter the station.
  • Residents who have obtained a current year permit and are only disposing of garbage & recyclables may proceed to the drop drop-off on the top level of the transfer station.
