Police Department

Loyally Serving the Town of Middlebury

The mission of the Middlebury Police Department is to provide the highest quality of police services through community partnerships that creates trust, reduces crime, strengthens a safe environment, and enhances the quality of life in our community. Our members will make every effort to deliver this service with integrity, honesty, respect and in a manner that is equitable to all.

OUR CORE VALUES

Professionalism: We are accountable to ourselves and the public for the quality of our service, and we seek to continually improve ourselves, our department, and our community relationships.

Respect: To achieve our goals is a foundational tenet of our organization.  Respect must begin inward; in the way we interact with each other and accompany each officer in their day-to-day dealings with the public we serve.  Only through mutual respect of each other and the citizens we serve will the Middlebury Police Department reach its full potential.

Innovation: Innovation is encouraged to create a learning organization that will grow and develop new and innovative practices to accomplish our mission.

Diversity: We will engage in continuous education about different cultures and people within our community. We will engage our community partners to participate in the education of our officers, to provide resources and services essential for the safety and healing of victims.

Excellence: We will strive for personal and professional excellence. We will continually develop and embrace relationships with our citizens, community leaders and community partners, to keep our community safe. We will find innovative ways to enhance our service to the community.

Middlebury is served by 11 full-time and 9 part-time officers under the direction of the Chief of Police, who reports to the Police Commission.

The department provides complete investigative, public safety and traffic control services.

Incoming calls are logged and dispatched by the Northwest Communications Center. Northwest Communications serves as the regionalized monitoring station for private alarm systems.
