Tax Collector Overview

The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for the collection of payments for Real Estate, Personal Property, Motor Vehicle taxes and Sewer Usage Fees. The office is responsible for thorough accounting of all records and funds administered. The Tax Office takes great pride in serving the taxpayers of Middlebury. The office is committed to upholding high standards of ethical conduct and operating in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.

Tax Bills

The Town of Middlebury 2022 Grand List mill rate is 32.26 mills. This means that for every $1,000 of assessment you will pay $32.26.

Tax bills will be mailed mid June, payment is due July 1, 2023. The last day to pay without interest is August 1, 2023. Real estate and personal property tax bills show the total due and the installment due dates.

Payment of all motor vehicle taxes and tax bills of $100 and less are due in full July 1, 2023. Real estate and personal property tax bills over $100 are payable in two installments (July & January).

No bills will be mailed for the January installment

Supplemental motor vehicle bills (vehicles that are registered after October 1st) are mailed in December. 

If you have delinquent motor vehicle taxes and need to register a vehicle with the Departments of Motor Vehicle, payment must be made with a money order, or certified bank check for a release to be issued. If payment is made by personal check, a release will be issued to the DMV after 10 business days.
Effective June 8, 2021 the Tax Collector's office will NOT accept CASH over $100.
