Fire Department

Overview

The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is dedicated to serving the community by responding to emergencies that immediately threaten life or property, to routine citizen requests for information or assistance, and performing duties in fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue and hazardous material responses.

The MVFD is a 100% volunteer organization staffed primarily by your Middlebury neighbors. Volunteer firefighters and EMT's are highly trained and work under the supervision of Fire Chief Bret Kales. A typical fire fighter completes over 150 hours of certification training but many of our members have invested much more to meet ever increasing certification requirements. Members also attend regular training to ensure their performance as a firefighter and EMS provider is in accordance with State of Connecticut law, protocols and standard operating procedures.

The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department firefighters and EMTs respond to 1300 emergency calls annually. Calls include fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, rescues, fire alarms and requests for assistance.
