Register to Vote
Any U.S. citizen 18 years old or older, who is a bona fide resident of this town, is eligible to register to vote in this town. If you are 17 years old, you may “pre-register” and you will become a voter on your 18th birthday. To register to vote, simply go to the Registrar of Voters Office or the Town Clerks Office during regular business hours. It is NOT necessary that you apply for registration in your own town of residence. You may apply for registration in the office of any Town Clerk or Elections Administration Department in Connecticut. Your application will be forwarded to your own town for approval.
You may also request the Registrar of Voters Office to send you a mail-in voter registration form which you may complete, sign and mail back to our office.
By law, there must generally be two registrars of voters for each municipality. The legislative body of a town with at least two voting districts may, however, establish registrars who are elected in each district (CGS § 9-190). All municipalities, except North Branford, currently have registrars that represent the entire municipality. Registrars must be elected unless a special act or municipality's charter permits them to be appointed (CGS § 9-185). However, this option does not apply to deputy, assistant, or special assistant registrars. Each registrar must appoint a deputy and can, when the need arises, appoint assistant and special assistant registrars (CGS § 9-192).
Registrars are generally responsible for registering voters and conducting elections.
