The Town Clerk’s office maintains permanent records of all documents recorded relating to property in Middlebury along with filed survey maps. Minutes of all boards and commissions are a permanent record here. A list of Board and Commission members is also maintained in this office. Current Agendas are posted here. Copies of Charter and Ordinances are available.
The Town Clerk’s office issues Connecticut Fishing and Hunting licenses, Dog licenses, Marriage licenses, Civil Union licenses. Liquor permits are filed with us.
The Town Clerk is also an Election Official responsible for keeping voter check-off lists, a list of all elected officials, issuing absentee ballots, registering voters in the absence of the Registrar of Voters and printing election materials.
The Town Clerk is also the Registrar of Vital Statistics. Birth, Marriage, Civil Union, and Death records occurring in Middlebury are a permanent record here. We also keep certified copies of Birth, Marriage, Civil Union and Death records if the event occurred in Connecticut and Middlebury was the Town of residency at that time. Certified copies of our vitals are issued according to Connecticut General State Statutes. Our records date from 1807 to the present. We also maintain burial records for the cemetery. Veteran Discharges are filed in our office.
The Town Clerk and Assistant Town Clerk are also notary publics. Wills and living wills are excluded from this service.
