The last day to pay without interest is August 1, 2016.  Bills may be paid at the Tax Collector’s Office at the Town Hall or by U.S. Mail.

The Town of Middlebury is now using “Lockbox” to process payments.  Payments will be mailed to Woburn, MA as stated on the bill.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR MOTOR VEHICLE TAXES

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and Municipalities across the state are working to resolve some inconsistencies on residents’ mailing addresses and domicile (Town in which vehicle is garaged) addresses.

If you have received a tax bill from a town that you did not reside in or garage your vehicle in as of October 1, 2015, please contact the Tax Assessor’s office that you received the bill from to request a transfer to the correct Town/City of residence as of October 1, 2015.

Working together to correct these discrepancies will help to eliminate or at least decrease the wait times at DMV offices.

If your registration will expire within 60 days of your bill (or has already expired) and you have not received a renewal notification, you must contact the DMV directly.  If you are being reported with a tax (or other) compliance issue in a town you have never lived in, you should contact the town reporting the compliance.

Visit the Connecticut DMV website at www.ct.gov/dmv/online for renewing a registration, cancelling plates, verifying your renewal status after a payment of delinquent taxes and changing your address, etc.

Bills may be paid by check, cash or online through Official Payments at www.officialpayments.com or call 1-800-272-9829 and use Jurisdiction Code 1763.

If mailing in a payment and you need a receipt, you MUST include all bills and a self-address, STAMPED envelope.

The Tax Collector's office is responsible for billing, collecting, and maintaining all tax records.

Tax bills showing the total due as well as the installment due dates are mailed at the end of June. Supplemental motor vehicle bills (motor vehicles which are registered after October 1st) are mailed in December.

Payment of all taxes of $100 or less and all motor vehicle taxes are due in full in July. All other taxes may be paid in July or shall be paid in two installments due and payable July 1st and January 1st; no bills are mailed for the January installment.

Taxpayers have one month from the due date to pay without incurring interest. Per State statue, taxes draw interest at the rate of 1-1/2% per month (18% per year) from the due date on the unpaid balance. The Tax Collector does not have the authority to waive interest. Failure to receive a bill does not invalidate payment of taxes or penalties. Back bills must be paid before current taxes.
