Tuesday thru Friday - 7:00am to 2:45pm
Saturday – 7:30am to 3:15pm
Closed: Sundays, Mondays and Holidays

The Middlebury Transfer Station is located off Route 63 on Service Road and is available to Middlebury Residents only (No Contractors). Middlebury residents in possession of a current annual permit may dispose of residential garbage and recyclables free of charge at the Transfer Station during the normal hours of operation. Please see the entire Transfer Station “Acceptable Items and Fees Schedule” below for other types of acceptable waste and fees for their disposal.

The 2009/2010 Transfer Station Permit window stickers are available free of charge at the Transfer Station Scale. Residents are required to fill out a form including name, address, make model and license plate number of their vehicle, additionally vehicles must be registered in the Town of Middlebury in order to obtain a permit sticker.

Household Garbage Disposal @ No Charge

Newspaper & Inserts – Single Stream Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Newspapers & any inserts delivered with newspapers, Junk mail, magazines etc.
Not Included: shiny paper, books
Preparation: Tie stacks of newspaper with string or bundle in brown paper grocery bags.

Magazines/Junk Paper - Single Stream Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Magazines, catalogs, junk mail, office paper, envelopes, fax paper, sweepstakes forms, school paper, non-metallic wrapping paper, construction paper, color inserts, real estate books, and NCR paper.
Preparation: Deliver to the Transfer Station in loose form (no bags, boxes or strings). If material is collected in a bag or box, it must be emptied out into the container at the Transfer Station or put in a brown paper bag next to your bin for curbside pickup

Cardboard – Single Stream Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Brown Cardboard - Double-walled cardboard shipping cartons, shoe boxes, pizza boxes, gift boxes, cereal boxes etc.
Not Included: Waxed cardboard,
Preparation: Flatten, stack and tie in large quantities.

Plastic – Single Stream Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Symbols 1 & 2 PET/PETE Soda & mineral water bottles, ketchup bottles, peanut butter jars IIDPE: Milk & water jugs, detergent, bleach & shampoo bottles, plastic coated milk containers, etc.
Not Included: Styrofoam, Food Wrap, Toys, Recycling Symbols 3 through 7
Preparation: Check for number code. Remove and discard caps. Rinse clean. Labels & neck rings okay. Don’t crush.

Metal Cans – Single Stream Recycled - No Charge
Includes: Tin and aluminum cans and food wraps. Such as: soup and vegetable cans, pie plates and aluminum foil, etc.
Not Included: Scrap metal, toasters, pots, pans, hangers, aerosols
Preparation: Rinse clean

Glass – Single Stream Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Clear, brown and green food and beverage containers, such as soda, juice and wine bottles, mayonnaise and jelly jars, etc.
Not Included: Drinking glass, light bulbs, ceramics, window glass, mirror glass
Preparation: Discard lids. Rinse clean. Labels and neck rings okay.

Phone Books – Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Local SBC telephone books.
Not Included: other books, magazines, etc.
Preparation: Deliver to the Transfer Station.

Scrap Metal – Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Light scrap metal, white goods, aluminum, copper, brass, tools, water tanks, pipes, aluminum siding, copper wire, faucets
Not Included: Propane tanks, oil based paint cans, heating oil, fuel oil and gasoline tanks
Preparation: Check with Transfer Center Operator

Waste Oil and Antifreeze Recycled @ No Charge
Only used crankcase oil, automatic transmission fluid or antifreeze
Not accepted (includes but is not limited to) hydraulic oil, cutting oil, gasoline, parts cleaner, solvents.
Preparation: Place in clean plastic or metal jug (do not use empty bleach containers) and see attendant for further instructions when dropping off at Transfer Station. 

Batteries - Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Car batteries, truck batteries, boat batteries, tractor batteries, motorcycle batteries.
Not Included: Flashlight batteries, hearing aid batteries, watch batteries
Preparation: Deliver to drop-off center or return to store where replacement battery was purchased.

Electronics - Recycled @ No Charge
Includes: Computers, Laptops, Servers, Keyboards, Monitors, Printers, Scanners, Copiers, Fax Machines, Electric Typewriters, Power Supplies, Chargers, Transformers, Power Strips, Circuit Breakers, CD and DVD Players, Radios, Stereo Equipment, Receivers, Amplifiers, LCD TVs, Plasma TVs, Telephones, Shredders, Circuit Boards, Hard Drives, Plastic Bodied Electric Power Tools, Plastic Bodied Electric Appliances, Cell Phones, Light Ballasts, Fluorescent Lights, NiMH Batteries and Li-ion Batteries.

Yard Waste Disposal @ No Charge
Includes: Foliage from trees, grass clippings, clean brush 4” in or less in diameter and 4’ or less in length
Preparation: Check with Transfer Station Operator

Fee Schedule:

Bulky/Oversized Waste and Demolition Debris Charged @ $92.00 per ton
Under 200 lbs. = Charged a minimum charge of $4.00
Over 201 lbs. = Weighed and charged 4 cents per pound.

Appliances: $10 per Freon containing appliances. 

Tires:   Car Tires - $2
Larger Tires up to 17” - $5
Not Accepted: Large truck or tractor tires

20-Pound Propane Tanks: $1.00 each
No other propane or gas tanks accepted
