The Public Works Department consists of 19 employees whose major responsibilities include the construction and maintenance of the Town infrastructure including building maintenance, vehicle maintenance, sewage systems, water systems, recreational facilities and operation of the Town Transfer Station. The Highway Department has ten full time employees. The Vehicle Maintenance Department has two full time mechanics. The transfer station has one full time employee and a shares one person from the public works department. The Sewer Department has two full time employees and the Building and grounds Department has four full time employees.
For the purposes of town infrastructure, the Town has at its disposal major and minor equipment in order to have the ability to handle much of the necessary work for road construction, drainage, water and sewer installation along with the necessity to provide snow plowing so as not to rely on the more expensive use of contractors. The town forces also continue to participate in the state funded water system improvements going on in town at this time.
The Building & Grounds group does all routine building and grounds maintenance as well as that for the parks and recreational facilities. This includes an ever-increasing lawn mowing responsibility that has now grown to 70 acres.
All vehicle maintenance including large and small vehicles and ancillary mechanical equipment is performed at the Town garage. Beside normal truck maintenance, the mechanics service police vehicles, the mini-bus and the various small pieces of mowing equipment for the Buildings and Grounds group. The major preventive maintenance assignment is the repair and reconditioning of trucks and equipment after the sever demands of winter plowing and sanding operations.
The town transfer station is open to the public every day but Sunday, and recent state mandated changes have upgraded the operation to a model for safety, efficiency and environmental concerns.
The town's dog pound facility is located next to the entrance to the Transfer Station. Contact the Police Department for information about incarcerated dogs.
