Minutes of the Middlebury Bicentennial Committee
December 8,
2005
Those present were Beth Bartholomew, Jaimie Cura, Bob Desmarais Sr., Robin
Fenn, Jane Gallagher, Suzanne Kenishea, Terry McAuliffe, Michael McCormack,
Crosby Middlemass, Scott Middlemass, Lou Orsini, Alicia Ostar, Ray Pietrorazio,
David Pope, Robert Rafford, Ray Sullivan, and Ron Vitarelli.
1. Meeting called to order by Terry McAuliffe 7:05 pm.
2. Minutes of November. 10th meeting were reviewed and accepted with
corrections.
3. Suzanne Kenishea, Crosby Middlemass, and Ray Sullivan of the Logo/Slogan
Subcommittee presented the proposed Logo Contest Package and plan for execution.
A number of comments were collected with regard to the rules for eligibility and
the packaging of the contest packet. There were also open questions on prizes,
securing of PO Box, and alternative drop-off locations. The logo subcommittee
agreed to a follow-up meeting with Ron Vitarelli and Ray Pietrorazio to resolve
remaining issues and present a final plan at our next meeting.
4. The Slogan contest is being separated from the Logo contest and will be
presented as a proposal at a future meeting.
5. Ray Pietrorazio noted that the Bicentennial Committee was made an official
town committee by the Board of Selectman. There is an initial funding of $3000.
6. The Major Events calendar was presented by Ron Vitarelli and he discussed a
meeting with the Rotary Club and the need for future meetings with other groups
to obtain sponsorship for these events.
7. The “idea bank” of bicentennial activities was presented by Terry McAuliffe.
There were a number of comments on additional ideas, as well as comments about
getting these ideas committed to a sponsor and a calendar.
8. Ray Pietrorazio and Ron Vitarelli pointed out the need for additional
volunteers to take on projects and to serve on subcommittees, especially fund
raising. Some names were mentioned to be followed up for the next meeting.
9. The current organization chart was reviewed by Terry McAuliffe. Lee Ostar
pointed out that the committee structure needed to be solidified. Terry
McAuliffe suggested interim meetings of the head committee during the Christmas
holidays to review the current structure and provide an update for the next
meeting.
10. No other new business, the meeting was adjourned, motioned by Ray
Pietrorazio, seconded by Terry McAuliffe, and unanimously voted.
11. Next meeting will be Thursday January 5th, 7:00 pm at the Middlebury
Historical Society.
