June 2nd Committee Meeting Notes

1. Meeting called to order by Co-Chair Ron Vitarelli @ 7:04 p.m.

2. Those present were Ralph Barra, Hal Lynch, Terry McAuliffe, Mike McCormack, Ray Pietrorazio, Robert Rafford, Ron Vitarelli, Betty Proulx and Giselle Boyadjian.
 
3. The minutes of the May 5th meeting were reviewed. Motion to accept by Ray Pietrorazio, seconded by Terry McAuliffe, unanimously voted.

4. Ron Vitarelli reported that he has made efforts to meet with Dr. Sippy of Reg. 15 School Dist., but no reply yet. It  s felt that due to budget referendum, Dr. Sippy may not have had time to reply. Ron to follow.

5. Mike McCormack Sr. reported on settting up of separate expense account, using Town tax exemption No., I.D., etc.  Town requested not to open until after June 30, (new fiscal year) Motion by Mike McCormack Sr. to open account as       above, seconded by Hal Lynch, unanimously voted.

6. Terry McAuliffe reported on e-mail procedure for now. He is receiving at his personal address and sending out to appropriate people.

7. Ralph Barra reported on grant inquiries. Ed St.John must make formal request for funds. Ray Pietrorazio to provide internet copies of other town’s bicentennial budgets and money requests they have made.

8. Bob Rafford reported on Middlebury artifacts, pictures, etc. that are beginning to mount. The Historical Society is planning a book to be completed in the not-to-distant future. He suggests the State Library has much information,  mostly on film. He would like assistance in dissecting such in Hartford.

9. Chair Ron Vitarelli asked about the Breakneck burial ground. Ray Pietrorazio stated it was Ray Sullivan’s request for  the committee to consider this as a bicentennial activity. It was agreed by all that certainly this is most appropriate and should be included in the planning.

10. Ray Pietrorazio to contact William Pape (Wat. Republican/American) with regard to newspaper indexes.

11. Betty Proulx reported on Middlebury Day (Nite) @ Quassapaug Amusement Park. Booths are set up by various groups, posters, etc. A good place with large turnout to get your info out. (June 23)

12. Chair Ron Vitarelli asked for ideas for activities from committee:

Mike McCormack suggested

Ø       historical re-enactments

Ø       culmination party.

Giselle Boyadjian stated

Ø       Westover School wants very much to be involved. (Another person succeeding her position at Westover)

Bob Rafford suggested

Ø       re-enactments, “Chauncey Judd kidnapping”

Ø       contests such as historical figures in town, photography

Betty Proulx stated

Ø       the Recreation Dept.is planning a pewter pin.

Ray Pietrorazio suggested

Ø       re-enactments

Ø       joint church ecumenical activities

Ø       sledding party @ Shepardson.

Terry McAuliffe suggested

Ø       logo and slogan contest, involving the schools, at start of school year.

Ron Vitarelli suggested

Ø       involving schools

Ø       churches have some ecumenical activity

Ø       house tour.

Ralph Barra suggested

Ø       schools band concerts

Hal Lynch suggested

Ø       involvement of seniors and children

Ø       portrayal of how business was conducted years ago

Ø       dances.

13. Chair Ron Vitarelli announced next meeting is Thursday, July 14th, 7:00 p.m.@ Library unless notified otherwise by Terry.

14. There being no further business, motion to adjourn by Ray Pietrorazio, seconded by Ron Vitarelli, unanimously  voted. Meeting adjourned @ 8:10 p.m.
